    Curriculum Implementation Support - Professional Learning 2025

    As we move into the second (Years 3-6) and third (Kinder-Year 2) years of implementation of K-10 English and Mathematics, ongoing support in professional learning and collaboration will assist schools in sustaining a culture of evidence-based reflective teaching and ongoing improvement of curriculum implementation. 

    To ensure new practices are strengthened to generate improvement in student learning outcomes, ILW Learning K-12 will continue its ongoing support of schools throughout the ‘Embed’ phase of implementation in English and Mathematics. Schools can access optional system-wide professional learning and in situ support for effective curriculum implementation throughout 2025.

    English K-10 Curriculum Implementation Support 

    Day 1: Developing metacognitive processes through reading comprehension

    Participants will deepen their understanding of the ‘Understanding and Responding to Literature’ outcome and the importance of using the learning processes to develop metacognition and connect reading and writing.

    Instructional Leaders supporting teachers in planning and programming (including Principals, Assistant Principals, Middle Leaders and/or Instructional Coaches)

    Day 2: Understanding the aspects of language comprehension

    Participants develop a deep understanding of curriculum focus areas that support the development of language comprehension underpinning reading and writing including spelling, vocabulary, and background knowledge.

    Day 3: Building strong foundations for skilled writing: 

    Participants will unpack sentence-level grammar, effective writing instruction and formative assessment.

    Day 4: Building skills in applying knowledge

    Participants apply their knowledge of the K-10 English Syllabus and subject English to make connections across the curriculum.

    Phonemic Awareness and Phonics in the Early Years

    Days 1 & 2: Participants will explore explicit and systematic Phonological Awareness and Phonic instruction to improve practice and student learning.


    Two Face to face days are followed by two days of additional support in clusters/in situ 

    Early Stage 1 & Stage 1 Teachers, DLN Teachers & Stage 2 abd 3 teachers with students who require additional support in this area.

    Understanding the EALD Learner

    Participants will engage in peer-to-peer discussions and explore practical, hands-on resources designed to enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes for students with diverse linguistic and cultural needs.

    Building on prior professional learning, participants will

    • Explore strategies for making connections within the curriculum to build deep knowledge,
    • Identify the crucial "Big Ideas" that represent key progress points in the syllabus, and 
    • Refine formative assessment strategies to inform the next steps in learning.

    Leading teachers to

    • Strengthen their understanding of the interconnectedness within the Mathematics Syllabus

    • Apply High Impact Strategies to enhance student learning
